Dark Matter, Neutrinos, and Our Solar System

Dark Matter, Neutrinos, and Our Solar System

Dark Matter, Neutrinos, and Our Solar System is a unique enterprise that should be viewed as an important contribution to our understanding of dark matter, neutrinos and the solar system. It describes these issues in terms of links, between cosmology, particle and nuclear physics, as well as between cosmology, atmospheric and terrestrial physics. It studies the constituents of dark matter (classified as hot warm and cold) first in terms of their individual structures (baryonic and non-baryonic, massive and non-massive, interacting and non-interacting) and second, in terms of facilities available to detect these structures (large and small). Neutrinos (an important component of dark matter) are treated as a separate entity. A detailed study of these elusive (sub-atomic) particles is done, from the year 1913 when they were found as byproducts of beta decay – until the discovery in 2007 which confirmed that neutrino flavors were not more than three (as speculated by some). The last chapter of the book details the real-time stories about the “regions” that were not explored thus far, for lack of advanced technology. Their untold fascinating stories (which span up to 2010) are illustrated here datewise in full. The book concludes with the latest news that the Large Hadron Collider team at CERN has finally succeeded in producing 7 trillion electronic Volts of energy by creating head-on-collisions of protons and more protons (in search of God-particle). The energy produced was three times more than previous records. Black Women Matter Conference

Black Women Matter Conference
Event on 2015-11-24 18:00:00
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991. Participants chose the dates November 25, International Day against Violence against Women and December 10, International Human Rights Day, in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that such violence is a violation of human rights. This 16-day period also highlights other significant dates including November 29, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, December 1, World AIDS Day, and December 6, which marks the Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. The 16 Day Campaign will be used as an organizing strategy for Helping Women Win to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women by: · Raising awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue. · Strengthening local work around violence against women. · Establishing a clear link between local and state work to end violence against women. · Providing a forum in which organizers can develop and share new and effective strategies. · Demonstrating the solidarity of women in the Lawton/Ft. Sill area organizing against violence against women. This year’s theme is: “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the world: Make Education Safe for All!” Under this global theme, the 16 Days Campaign is asking you to join in advancing the right to education and challenging violence, discrimination, and inequity in education at the intersection of gender, race or ethnicity, religion, real or perceived sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and other social identifiers. During these 16 Days, Helping Women Win will remember all those who have been affected by gender-based violence and continue our efforts to end this enduring outrage. Considering more recent national events involving women of color, Helping Women Win will be kicking off their 16 days of activism campaign by sponsoring a full-day conference. This unique event is the only regionally-focused conference created for Black Women in the Lawton area. The Black Women Matter Conference is the only half-day conference that provides education and practical tools for black women in Oklahoma. This is a chance to focus on the advancement of communities starting with the black woman. The conference brings black women of various backgrounds together to promote the exchange of ideas and information as a whole and to network with each other. Topics up for discussion during this interactive panel will include the following: · Women and poverty · Education and training · Women and health · Violence against women · Women & armed conflict · Women & the economy · Power & decision making · Institutional mechanisms · Human rights of women · Women & the media · Women & the environment · Young women & the community · Women in the court system · Anti-transgender hatred and prejudice Helping Women Win invites civil society organizations, government officials, and the public to discuss combating gender-based violence and mechanisms for prevention, as well as, identifying and responding to gender-based violence. This includes experiences, recommendations, and next steps.
