Come celebrate the holidays at our December meeting featuring: COLOR GRADING: WHAT YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COLOR – Part 2 We are thrilled to end the year with a return visit of one of our favorite presenters, Juan Ignacio Cabrera! He will be sharing part 2 of “Color Grading: What you REALLY Need to Know” and it’s okay if you missed part 1, Juan will bring you up to speed. Topics will include: Good Color Grading on every budget, techniques, good practices and the importance of calibration & color management. For those who attended our March meeting you know that Juan not only is overflowing with valuable information but he is also extremely entertaining and insightful so come prepared for a great lesson on color from one of Hollywood’s busiest colorists. EDITORIAL & VFX WORKFLOW FOR QUANTUM BREAK After the networking break, Juan has agreed to stay and share the Editorial & VFX workflow for Quantum Break, a unique interactive gameplay and integrated live-action television show. It is live-action and the actor’s story-line and outcome is affected by the player’s choices throughout the game. Serving as VFX-Supervisor and Colorist, Juan used SGO Mistika at his studio, LightBender for Color Grading, along with a team of 60 people from three different countries for the VFX. Here's an excerpt from the blog post: Room Tone – 28 Weeks of Post Audio – Week 2 Do we really need it? by Woody Woodhall November 21, 2016 Post Production True silence in filmmaking is rarely used. There might be a bit of silence at the fade out to black or between scenes, but during a scene, although someone might not be speaking and there is no score or sound effects, it is not “silent” – there is a sound to that unique space and the quality of the recording itself. Room tone, sometimes called room noise or fill, is simply the recorded sound of a particular room that a scene is being shot in. That sound is caused by many factors – lights, refrigerators, air conditioning, people, furniture, as well as the “sound” of the microphone, the “sound” imparted by the recording device and the specifications of the recording. As this last sentence indicates, no two rooms and no two room tones are “the same.” In fact, the same space will have a different tone at different points of the day. Room tone’s main function is to cover unwanted noise and fill gaps in the sound.
